My first “vending” experience was at the Frost Amphitheater in 1982. I sold homemade tamari roasted sunflower seeds I think for $.50 cents/bag or donation (spare change< which was a pretty good marketing idea considering that sometimes people would empty their pockets of change and I would get more than .50 cents )…
Next, I made stickers (Dead Heads; They Love Each Other) with a cool font. Then in ’85, I met a gal who made little beaded bell anklets and peyote stitched crystals. We did a summer tour together. We stopped off in Arkansas, picked up some crystals, and I learned how to peyote stitch them.
I sold on Shakedown Street…blanket on the ground all the way until my last show in Oakland on 12/12/94. I shipped my car to Maui and left the mainland U.S. for good. Of course, on 9 August of the next year, we were on the next flight we could catch to S.F.
From 1993-2013, I made silver (and gold) jewelry in Jaipur India. I traveled around the world, still on tour but with a twist. I would return to the states once or twice a year, catch some shows, visit friends and fam, and sell some jewelry (often at harvest season).
I consider myself an artist/jewelry designer and a very passionate Deadhead. Combining the two is what I do… I hope you all like it to…
